Look Ma No Brakes – Part 02: Bull Run

Posted in Bikes,The Gas Face by MattRennick on the November 18th, 2007

For anyone who was there last night, it’s fairly obvious that the Bull Run didn’t exactly go as planned. I approach how I talk about this with a certain amount of caution because, despite the fact that I now wish I had, I didn’t say anything about it last night when it would have been relevant. Overall, I think my sentiments on the events last night have been perfectly summed up by Ben so I don’t feel the need to say much more on the subject but there are two points that I’d like to reiterate from his post:

1) People need to learn to conduct themselves with a little bit more grace & humility – some people’s attitudes last night were like school on a Sunday; No Fucking Class!

2) Nadir & crew; sometimes things don’t work out the way we all want them to but anyone who matters knows that you bust your ass for us and we appreciate it. You were gracious in the faces of a mob of angry and/or confused bikesters and you handled the situation as well as anyone could have expected you to. Don’t sweat the petty, brother, pet the sweaty.

Folks; if you have a chance make sure to swing by La Carrera and check out the Stash / Futura x Colnago bikes while they are on display and give Nadir a pat on the back while you’re there.

Totally unrelated; posted on the construction boards across from my place

Well said duder. The way I see it, it was up to those actually racing to change the outcome should they so choose. I froze my ass off but I did it for people like Ben and Teddy – who had enough class that despite the confusion took the time to thank both myself and other checkpoint people – and the rest who came out to have a good fuckin’ time, which I believe happened for the most part.

Ps. – Well played sir. I can’t believe he wore just a diaper.

Very well said. I agree that Ben summed up what I was thinking and wanting to write.

I don’t see much point in being careful with my words, I respect that some might though. It was certainly hard to keep the vitriol and dare I say, vomit from expelling from my mouth the other night, it would have certainly hit some of the innocent. I’m sure many people wanted to say many different things and most people probably kept quiet for whatever reasons they deemed fit. I don’t know these dudes at all, and I’m not concerned with losing credibility with or friendship of people who act like that. I’m pretty confident that the next alleycat that anyone throws in this city will be a lot of fun and I’d encourage everyone to come out and support it fully.
