There is a reasonable amount of debate within the fixed gear community about riding with or without a hand-brake on city streets. Some of us got together to settle the debate and the results are in; riders who have a front brake, even if they don’t use it, are better…

That dude in the first pic sure seems to fall down a lot. I seem to remember him assuming that same pose at Dundas Square. Maybe he should get his inner ear checked?

That’s Toby and he does fall a good amount but that’s mostly just because he goes balls out and tries anything and everything on his bike. No guts, no glory!
Not to mention that on Friday’s ride he was hopped up on Percs after having had his wisdom teeth out… He’s one wild cat!

Not a lot of people can do the things on their bike that Toby can. I attribute that to 1) lack of fear and 2) spokey dokes.

…was trying to be funny, not disparaging. I saw some of the moves he was pulling off at DS and it was very cool.
I can’t do any of that stuff. I’m happy just to keep the rubber side down on a normal ride…..Which I almost didn’t do on Friday! &%$@ streetcar tracks!

I’ve been lucky thus far (knock on wood) but I’ve definitely been out with friends and looked back just in time to see them go ass over tea kettle in the tracks… Brutal.

yeah toby is definitely one of the most fun guys to ride with, just peels off at any time to do some random trick and it’s wonderfull
