Our Work Is Never Over {2}

So after nearly 3 weeks I got my baby back from Mackie Harley Davidson and despite it being a royal ball-ache to be without a bike for that long in the middle of summer when the weather has been absolutely fucking amazing, they set me up with a brand new wheel, tire, wheel bearings and replaced my seat which had a manufacturer’s defect… All under warrantee. Huge.

I think I’d just gotten used to how shaky it was at high speeds so riding it now is amazing… So smooth! So rad. While she was gone I’d gotten in a bunch of parts including this here timing cover from Lower Class Brass to replace the stock one, for no reason reason other than it looks cooler.

Not to take anything away from LCB because this thing is very nice, but truthfully I really wanted one of these from Old Gold Garage but they are perpetually out of stock.

Old Gold Garage Timing Cover

…looks a lot like this gem, found in a Tim Horton’s bathroom in Oshawa.

But I digress… I figured it would be easy enough to install but unfortunately the new one didn’t come with any hardware and the stock bolts are too short. I think I may have stripped the rear-most hole while trying to install…

So today I went up to Bikes On Wheels and stole borrowed some longer hex bolts to go in their place.

They fit, but I suspect that they were actually metric instead of imperial so if I hadn’t stripped that hole last night, I surely did today. C’est la vie, I threw some blue loctite in there for the time being so hopefully it holds… I’ll get some slightly longer imperial screws and see if there is enough thread to grab with those.

Thankfully, even if nothing worked and I really screwed that pooch, unlike on bikes that actually used points & condensers vs. electronic ignition, there is absolutely nothing under there!

Tail light & fender chop this weekend, hopefully, and tank paint / badges courtesy of McFonz in the winter.

Our work is never over.
